This is an experiment. This class takes the assumption that one of the means and ends of revolution is to be in right relationship with all beings at all scales—intrapersonally, interpersonally, collectively, and with Land and non-human beings. This course not only explores what it means to be in right relationship and how romance interrupts this aim, but practicing that ourselves for the 3 weeks we'll be together. We'll be exploring romance: what it is, its purpose, why it gets in the way of love, and how we can love and relate in ways that serve our individual and collective freedom and aliveness.

Week 1: Introductions & Exploring Our Definitions and Experiences of Romance

  • We'll introduce ourselves to map coordinates of belonging. We'll explore the wisdom and experiences we already possess that inform how we think about romance.

Week 2: Romance as an Orientation

  • We'll explore a definition of romance and its costs: the ways it curtails and limits our relationships, our actions, and what is possible.

Week 3: Loving & Relating Beyond Romance

  • We'll explore parallel modes of relating beyond romance—ways of meeting ourselves, one another, and the world as they are, free of delusion and rooted in reality.
