Zines (pronounced "zeens") are small, self-published, non-commercial booklets or pamphlets, often photocopied and assembled by hand, offering a platform for personal expression, niche interests, and counter-cultural voices outside mainstream media.
At NQC we believe that zines are one of the most accessible forms for creative practice. All you need to make a zine is a piece of paper, a writing implement, a pair of scissors and an idea. You don’t need to be a skilled writer, illustrator or designer. Zines are inherently imperfect, so making them can free us up from capitalist expectations of production. Zines are for everyone!
In this one-off introduction to zine making, we’ll discuss the history of zines, explore what zines can do, brainstorm our own zine ideas and then spend some time making and sharing our zines.
No experience needed.
This session will be recorded and shared with all ticket holders.
About Leif:

Leif (they/them) is the queer Chicago-based AuDHD artist and zine maker behind It’s Weird Now Press. Their creative practice is rooted in survival, self-compassion, and finding humor in the mess of being human. Through zines and mixed media work, Leif explores the beauty and chaos of the in-between. They view art-making as an act of resistance, healing, and re-imagination. Leif believes everyone is inherently creative and through the simple act of making - holds the power to transform not only themselves but also the world.
