Neuroqueer Novel Writing (Year 2)

This course is for those who have completed Neuroqueer Novel Writing (Year 1).

Now that we've spent a year really getting to know our project and our personal writing practices, we will knuckle down and focus on getting words on the page, and finally getting to the end of that first (second, third) draft.

This year-long course includes:

• 23 fortnightly sessions (with seasonal breaks): Friday, Sept 4th, 2026 - Aug 6th, 2027, 6-8:30pm UK via Zoom. (All sessions are recorded and shared for accessibility)

• Free access to the Writing Support Club throughout the duration of the course

• Free access to twice-weekly Creative Space (gently structured body-doubling)

  
  

As there are a very limited number of places, and the course runs for a whole year, a strong commitment to regular attendance and your project is expected. While sessions will be recorded and shared with ticket holders, the central purpose of the course is to write deeply in the space together. It is expected that you will start the course with a clear picture of your overall project, having done signficant developmental writing in the first year course.

Tickets are available at two price points, each of which is available as a 12-month payment plan. 

General Admission: represents the true cost of a course place.

Subsidised Tickets: for those who are unable to afford the GA ticket or payment plan.

Refund & Cancellation Policy:

Ticket refunds and payment plan cancellations can be made up to 14 days before the start of the course. After this, no refunds or cancellations will be made. If you have questions or concerns about this, please contact kr@neuroqueercreative.com before booking.

We reserve the right to cancel the course if we do not meet a minimum number of registrants. In this instance, all tickets will be fully refunded, minus payment processing fees.

Course Info:

Neuroqueer Novel Writing Year 2 is designed to support, guide and motivate writers to complete a full draft of a long-form narrative project. This might be a novel, a memoir, narrative poetry, a screenplay or a hybrid project. We meet every other Friday for 23 live sessions. These sessions will consist of group check-ins, craft discussions, and deep writing time with optional invitations. Each group member will be supported in developing their own goals and will have regular deadlines set for them to reach certain touchpoints along the way. Every 3-4 months, there will be an optional opportunity to receive positive, constructive and curious feedback from the group, and then we will reassess our goals together and adapt our plans accordingly.

This course takes a neuroqueer approach to writing, learning and creative practice. This means: 

• leaning into our individual, unique ways of creating 

• acknowledging and embracing the inherently iterative, spiraly, non-linear nature of the creative process. You will never be shamed or 'called out' for the ways in which you write and engage with your creative practice. 

• prioritising community as an integral part of the creative process

• establishing connections, concepts & practices that help you establish a writing practice that is sustainable after the course ends.

• accessibility and empathy are the foundations on which the course is built.

• clear, specific invitations and guidance

• optional levels of engagement

• no language/grammar policing!

Notes on Accessibility:

• Sessions include live closed captioning

• Sessions are recorded and shared with course members

• All slideshow and reading materials shared directly with members

• All exercise instructions are written out and given verbally

• No pressure to use mics or cameras - students can choose to use the chat function to communicate with the group

• Sharing work is always optional. 

• All sessions will have a suggested break, but students are encouraged to eat, drink, stim, move about the room, and take breaks as needed during the deep writing time.

Course Structure:

*The below represents the planned course structure of the upcoming intake. Adjustments may be made before the course start date, and throughout the course in response to the group's specific needs and interests.

• The majority of the sessions will be structured as follows:

  • Time for guided reflection and verbal check ins

  • Discussion of a writing example or craft issue

  • A guided warm up

  • 20 minutes deep writing time with an optional invitation related to earlier example or craft issue.

  • Suggested Break

  • 45 minutes deep writing time with a second optional invitation related to earlier example or craft issue.

  • Wind-down/transition activity

  • Verbal check outs.

    • While writing invitations will be provided to help stimulate words, attendees are free to write whatever is most useful for them in that moment.

• Three times throughout the year, there will be an optional opportunity to share work for guided feedback from the group. Those who do not want to engage in feedback, will be able to engage in a writing session as normal.

• Sessions following a feedback session will be dedicated to reassessing aims and goals with regards to our actual progress.

Writing Support Club:

All attendees will receive a free subscription to the Writing Support Club for the duration of the course with the option to continue for £5 a month afterwards. The Writing Support Club meets on the third Wednesday of every month from 6-7:30pm UK and is dedicated to verbal check ins and informal sharing of work for feedback

About KR:

KR Moorhead (they/them) is an AuDHD and gender non-compliant writer and educator who has been facilitating creative writing spaces for over 15 years. Before leaving to pursue freelance work that accommodated their neuroqueerness, KR taught Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia from 2009-2023, where they earned an MA in Creative Writing: Prose Fiction in 2007. KR also has a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education Practice and Research, and identifies as a 'recovering academic'. KR has facilitated for Writers in Bloom, Beyond Form Creative Writing, Devotion Workshop, Norwich School of Creative Writing, Oxbridge Academic Courses, and the University of Hull, and currently teaches a variety of courses for City Lit. KR's novella, The First Law of Motion, was published in the US by St. Martin's Press in 2009. Originally from the unceded land of the Lenni Lenape people, KR now lives in Norwich, UK with their partner, step-kid, and four cats. KR is the initiator and administrator of NQC.

KR also facilitates Writing the Neuroqueer Self, Writing Camp, Writing Support Club, and the twice-weekly Creative Space.
